Summertime Peaches

Warm weather has brought the return of one of my favorite fruits, the peach! This delicious summer fruit is in season from Mid-May to Mid-August and you’ll find them at their best in June and July. Now is the perfect time to be on the look out for organic peaches at your local grocery store or Farmer’s Market! When selecting a peach, be sure not to select one that is rock hard. Peaches should be tender to touch without being too soft. To help a peach ripen, place on the counter at room temperature for 1-3 days. Placing an under ripe peach in the refrigerator can cause it to become mealy.  Peaches are a delicious, versatile and affordable fruit that can be enjoyed on their own, as an addition to a salads, or even cooked and grilled!

Easy Dessert Idea

Grilling season is officially upon us and grilling isn’t just for meat! Don’t be afraid to try some fresh cut up fruit on the grill. Fruit that works well for grilling includes pineapple, watermelon, banana and of course peaches and other stone fruits like nectarines and apricots. For a simple and savory dessert,  grill or saute a sliced peach in a little bit of coconut oil with some cinnamon. Coconut oil remember is a healthy fat with lots of health benefits including having antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. I will write a whole post about the health benefits of coconut oil another time 🙂 Cinnamon also has its fair share of health benefits including being a powerful antioxidant, having antimicrobial properties, acting as a blood sugar moderator and  helping to improve the body’s ability to utilize blood sugar. Enjoy this simple, nutritious dessert all summer!
